It is no secret that when you gulp down a few mouthful of soda, it gives you that cool feeling and also quenches your thirst. Since soda can taste really nice, most people consume more than they should either knowingly or unknowingly. If you are a regular reader of health magazines, you must have read that excessive consumption of soda is not that healthy in an individual’s body. Medical experts have given a number of reasons why soda is not good for you. Basically, soda is nothing other than water that is sweetened with sugar. It greatly contributes to one becoming obese and brings other related problems if taken in excessively.

The above information may make you feel distraught, but below are the facts that prove that soda is not good for one’s health:

Excessive obesity

djjd764Recent research carried out by experts shows that drinking soda can lead to a dramatic increase in the fat level that builds around the body. Due to this, there is an accumulation of fats in the sensitive organs of the body. These organs include the heart liver and even skeletal muscles. When the fat accumulate it usually leads to obstruction of the normal functioning of the body. This can lead to problems like diabetes and insulin resistance.

Escalates aging

All soft drinks, soda included, have a high content of phosphates and phosphoric acids. These are the acids that are responsible for giving them the tangy taste that they have. The acids are also important in increasing the shelf life of the soft drinks. When one consumes these acids in a large amount, they not only cause issues like kidney and heart damage but also lead to muscle loss or even lead to accelerated aging.

Causes tooth decay

When you take a lot of soda, the chances are high that you will develop dental cavities. The risk is even higher if the consumption is on a regular basis. All soft drinks, soda included, have a high concentration of simple glucose, fructose, carbohydrates and sucrose. When these mix with the bacterias that are in the mouth, the result is the formation of acids. If the acid is allowed to remain in the mouth and come into contact with the teeth, they cause the enamel to soften due to the corrosion of minerals. As a result, one will start suffering from tooth decay. This is why children are at a high risk of suffering from tooth decay.

Intensifies pre-existing illnesses

Most experts have argued that diabetes is caused by an unhealthy diet, more especially that which has a high soda content. When soda is taken, it rapidly increases the blood sugar level. It also interferes with the production of insulin in the pancreas. This, in turn, affects the control of the blood sugar level. If one continues consuming a lot of sugar through soda, the pancreas will be affected hence no insulin will be produced. This will lead to one suffering from diabetes 2.

Soda has low nutritional value

hdhd74As stated early, soda does not provide any essential nutrients into the body. Instead, it contains ingredients which can be termed as artificial sweeteners.

With that said, we should watch the amount of soda that we consume to ensure that we are not affected by the above.
